Kendrick Lamar – DNA

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: DAMN.

Song Release Date: April 14 2017

Length:  3:06

Starting our Top 10 Best Kendrick Lamar Songs List is DNA. Every rapper has that one track where they rap about how good they are or how many material possessions they have and Kendrick Lamar is no exception. Coming from the critical and commercial success of his Monumental To Pimp a Butterfly album, It was about time Kendrick made a song like DNA. DNA is Kendrick Lamar’s most Braggadocio track. It is Kendrick at his utmost confident and arrogant peak. He raps about how he’s got loyalty, royalty and millions of dollars in his DNA. He’s got diamonds in the ceiling, marbles on the floor and a villa too. The highlight of the track was the beat switch near the end of the song. Essential Kendrick Lamar. DNA. definitely deserves a spot on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list.

Kendrick Lamar – The Art of Peer Pressure

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: Good Kid m.A.A.d City

Song Release Date: October 22 2012

Length:  5:24

Is this Kendrick Lamar’s most chilled rap song? We certainly think so. The Art of Peer Pressure is The rap song to smoke to. The slow melodic beat and subtle drums were simply enough to land at the number 9 spot. An excellent storytelling song that takes us on a journey to when Kendrick experienced peer pressure on a trip with his homies on Rosecrans, California. The only thing that annoys us when we listened to the song is why Kendrick didn’t release the intro as a separate song. One day it’s gon burn you outtttttttt!! The Art of Peer Pressure definitely deserves a spot on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list.

Kendrick Lamar feat Bilal, Anna Wise & Thundercat- These Walls

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: To Pimp a Butterfly

Song Release Date: October 13 2015

Length:  5:01

Here’s a suggestion. When you’re on a date with a girl at your house, play this song on Vinyl and ask her for a dance. The smoothness of this beat would be too good for her to decline even if she’s a bad dancer. If you’re not kissing or smashing by the end of this song, then bruh, you may be a lame. These Walls is arguably Kendrick’s most groovy track and if the mainstream had better tastes it would have reached number one on the charts when it was released as a single in 2015. These Walls details three things, the first verse is about a woman’s vagina, the second, the walls of a prison and the third walls of his mind and conscious. Kendrick Lamar – FEAR.

best kendrick lamar songs

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: DAMN.

Song Release Date: April 14 2017

Length:  7:41

Coming in at number 7 on our Top 10 Best Kendrick Lamar Songs list is fear. Fear is one of Kendrick Lamar’s greatest songs. An over 7-minute epic that details different times in Kendrick’s life (Aged 7, 17 and 17) when Kendrick was at his most fearful. At age 7 he feared his strict mother and how she disciplined him if he got out of hand. At age 17 he feared dying at that age from the cause of gang violence and police brutality. Finally, he recalls the anxieties he had at 27 years old such as thinking he may lose all his fortune. But it is the fear that he had at 17 that gets to us, being that age is where you should be having fun and not constantly thinking that any day could be your last. FEAR. is also one of Alchemist’s beats, the sample is just glorious. FEAR. definitely deserves a spot on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list and this list would not be the same without it.

Kendrick Lamar – Mortal Man

best kendrick lamar songs

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: To Pimp a butterfly

Song Release Date: March 15 2015

Length:  12:07

Coming in at number 6 on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list is Mortal Man. When shit hits the fan, is you still a fan? That’s a pretty powerful statement and by that, we could assume what was going on in his mind when he said this and made a song like Mortal Man. At that time Kendrick was riding off the success of GKMC and despite that, he was still aware of the trials and tribulations black men face every day. Money and fame do not make you bulletproof to allegations and Kendrick knows this. He’s seen a powerful black man like Michael Jackson had his image destroyed by the media. He’s seen prominent black figures such as MLK and Huey Newton killed for wanting to better the lives of black Americans. Kendrick understands that a lot of black people look up to him, but the message is if he becomes too powerful and the powers that be want to take him down and do everything to destroy his name, would his fans still stand by him? As fans ourselves, the answer is as clear as day, absolutely yes. Mortal Man definitely deserves a spot on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list.

Kendrick Lamar feat Jay Rock – Money Trees

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: Good Kid, m.A.A.d City

Song Release Date: October 22 2012

Length:  6:27

Kendrick Lamar is a master at making bangers and at the same time get the message he wants to get across effortlessly. Money Trees is an example of just that, an over 6-minute track that wonderfully samples a Beach House song. that details Kendrick robbing a house. The song is a summary of the GKMC concept story so far (from Sherane to The Art of Peer Pressure). Still, till this day, we hear this song at parties, is the song that good or are our friends just Kendrick Lamar stans? Money Trees definitely deserves a spot on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list.

4.

Kendrick Lamar feat MC Eiht – m.A.A.d city

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: Good Kid, m.A.A.d City

Song Release Date: October 22 2012

Length:  5:50

What makes this song so flipping good? Is it the Yawk! Yawk! Yawk! chant by Schoolboy Q? The menacing production? The fast rapping by Kendrick? Or the second half of the song where MC Eint and Kendrick Lamar exchange bars in perfect sync? There are so many highlights on m.A.A.d city that it’s too difficult to pick one. We know every verse on this incredible song and solely because of that it’s only right that it lands at number four on our list. Can we also add that this song was mixed and mastered to absolute perfection. Shoutout to MixedByALi! m.A.A.d City definitely deserves a spot on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list.

3.

Kendrick Lamar – Momma

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: To Pimp a Butterfly

Song Release Date: March 15 2015

Length:  4:43

So Smooth. So Elegant. So Soulful and so soothing. Momma is another masterpiece of a track by Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick gets praised for many things but he hardly gets any praise for his excellent ear for beats like Jay – Z does. Momma is the most underrated song across all Kendrick Lamar’s major projects. This beat honestly just sounds euphoric, the vocal sample, the subtle baseline, the distortion, the piano, the harmonies and the stretched out vocals all come together to give the listener an incredible experience. The lyrics Kendrick Lamar lays down are some of the best so far in his glittering career, especially that last verse. Momma definitely deserves the number 3 spot on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list.

Kendrick Lamar – Wesley’s Theory

best kendrick lamar songs

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: To Pimp a Butterfly

Song Release Date: March 15 2015

Length:  4:47

If you asked us to describe Wesley’s Theory. We’d tell that it is a schizophrenic, space funk, time warping, complex, dense piece of music that would even make the greatest musicians who have lived throughout history proud. Wesley’s Theory covers the financial literacy of rappers who make it out the hood and go broke later because they are given no guidance on how to manage their money, and are only being pimped by the industry. Once they’ve been sucked dry they are fed to the wolves. Kendrick wants to avoid being pimped by the industry (making an album like To Pimp a Butterfly instead of an album of hits and bangers for his follow up to Good Kid m.A.A.d city) and he also learns from the mistake of his previous peers by being financially literate. Kendrick, despite being worth millions seems to be very cautious with his finances and this is also witnessed on the third verse of fear, where he doesn’t even trust accountants after seeing what happened to Rihanna. Wesley’s Theory definitely deserves a spot on our best Kendrick Lamar songs list.

Kendrick Lamar – Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst

Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Album: Good Kid, m.A.A.d City

Song Release Date: October 22 2012

Length:  12:03

Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst  tops our Top 10 Best Kendrick Lamar Songs. It is the centrepiece of his major debut classic album and surely one of the greatest rap songs of all time. You can hear the storytelling influence of Nas, Tupac Shaker, Andre 3000, Big L and Lupe Fiasco in this tearful track. He’s dropped 4 projects since GKMC (TPAB, Untitled Unmastered, DAMN., Black Panther: The Album) and none of them possesses a track as great as this. He may never top it and that’s OK. Not everyone can top near perfection. Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst totally deserves to be number one on our Top 10 Best Kendrick Lamar Songs list.
